Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jungle Green really disappointed me. I realize that it's not some pricy brand or anything, but it failed on so many levels I was astounded. It sharpens well, I'll give it that. It went on really blotchy with lots of skips that I had to go back over to fill in. It started to 'seperate' within the hour causing me to have to go back and smudge it a bit to get it to look normal again. It got racoony by the end of the day. Oh, and the Jungle Green should be called '80's I Work At K-Mart Green'. Green doesn't have to be cheesy, but there's something about this particular shade. Sigh.
I'm not a total sourpuss. I LOVE Intelligent Nutrients Certified Organic 100% Nontoxic Plant Chemistry Lip Delivery Nutrition (whew! say all that in one breath!). Not waxy and with penetrating moisture. I always like it when I can trust a lip product to be safe since I know I'll wind up eating 5 pounds of it. It has a slight tingly feel reminiscent of Carmex. I keep a tube of this next to the bed for my nightly balm needs. I will never buy a tube of Chapstick again.
WHOA! I didn't know THIS- I just thought it was an awesome lip balm! According to the company:
"Product Description
Invigorating nutrition-packed emollients feed dry lips with antioxidant Intellimune® Seed Oil Complex.
Think about it—we ingest our lip products every time we lick our lips. One of the fastest ways we absorb substances into our blood is through sublingual assimilation. It only makes sense that we formulate all lip products with nutrition, rather than harmful synthetic ingredients, petrolatum, mineral oil or lead. Our super-antioxidant Intellimune® Seed Oil Complex—an anti-aging, synergistic blend of black cumin, pumpkin, red grape, red raspberry and cranberry seed oils—comprises 20% of the total composition of our lip balm. The other nutritious food ingredients are coconut, sunflower seed, castor seed and palm kernel oils. Lip Delivery Nutrition® — providing nutrition and antioxidants both externally and internally every time you lick your lips."
WOW, now I love it even more. SWEET.
Bath & Body Works Natural Aromatherapy Energy Body Mist in Orange Ginger
is a double edged sword. It smells fabulous and really is a kick in the seat of the pants for when you're dragging. It doesn't smell artificial at all so I believe them that it has genuine essential oils.
BUT, and it's a big butt, er, but. The first listed ingredient is alcohol, so the scent evaporates super quickly. Forget about trying to wear this as your scent for the day unless you want to carry it around with you to respritz. Wait, you can't do that because it's in a glass bottle and you can't transfer the spray to an atomizer because the top is crimped on.That's really too bad, since I'd love to carry this around with me during the day to give me the occasional much needed seat kicking.
I'd recommend using this as an all over body spray right after the shower on those dragging days to get you out the door and then carry another scent to apply later after this starts to wear off.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadows in Tea Biscuit and Roseberry Light
Are excellent highlight colors. These are very sheer and I can't say I'd see the point in wearing them as all over solo colors unless you simply want a bit of highlight. They are wonderful for blending or toning down too dark colors and will add a touch of shimmer to a dark matte. Very dignified.
How come a perfume that I adored as a teenager suddenly smells like old lady perfume to me now that I'm an adult?
Maybe I didn't have as refined a scent palate so I just thought it smelled sophisicated or grown up. I dunno. I tried to revisit my young adulthood to no avail. Bummer. Luckily it is cheap. Oddly, it smells great if you toss a bunch of it into your washing machine during the rinse cycle. When the clothes are drying the whole house smells delightful. Waste not, want not!
Talika Eye Therapy patches RAWK. I go the cheap route and buy the refills, you don't really need the case since they keep just as well if you put them back in the foil pack. Each set of patches is good for three or more uses. They say three, but I've succesfully stretched them further. They are these crazy gel patches that are curved to fit under and up the side of your eyes. They self stick and you leave them on for 30 minutes. They have essential oils and ceramide that absorb into the gentle eye skin leaving you feeling refreshed and lookin' good. They get rid of bags and circles and seem to plump up fine lines. I was skeptical before my first use but I've been swayed because they have such immediate visible results. Great for reviving yourself, especially if you store them in the freezer. I put these on cold and then lay down with my lavender eye pillow (from Gabbriella's Closet mentioned in an earlier blog) and felt like a new person afterwards. And check out the results of their clinical trial:

And lastly, the new Bare Escentuals Hydrating mineral veil
is quite nice. It doesn't feel at all chalky on application and goes on light and sheer. I have seen complaints that it's too sheer, but it seems as though those people are confusing it for a foundation. The word veil is meant to imply sheerness, is it not? Because it isn't drying you look fresh much longer and it adds a touch of light reflection to make you look younger and more refreshed. It sits on top of lines instead of settling into and accentuating them. Also great for maturing skin that tends to look older in a matte foundation. You can apply your flaw covering spackle and then put this over it to lessen the mask look.
