Yeah, I'm an addict for primer- I don't know how I lived without it. I actually get ridiculously stressed out if I've forgotten my primers. That's one reason I love Laura Geller's Spackle set that has face lip and eye primer in one little thing (with a mirror!)

Elf is a lil too sheer for me. I like the coverage and feel of the Valley Girl minerals from LA Minerals.
If you use a primer, it makes it last longer.
