What are Parabens?

Parabens are a group of chemicals widely used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.  Chemically they are esters.   Some shampoos, moisturizers, toothpaste and other personal care products contain them.  They are also used as food additives.

How can they be harmful?

Probably the most known association of parabens in relation to negative health side effects is their relationship to breast cancer.  They have been found in the tumors of breast cancer, but it is not known if they cause the tumors.  They are known to cause many allergic reactions and skin rashes.
