I'm a sucker for anything to enhance the softness of my skin. I absolutely abhore the feeling of dry skin- I'm one of THOSE people- the ones who compulsively must use hand lotion 80 times a day and can't fall asleep without serums and such. I'm actually feeling a little twitchy right now because I forgot to use my eye cream this morning. So what's been slathered on lately?
Avon Foot Works Intensive Callus Cream
I am SO glad that they still make this stuff! I've been using it for years, and it's an unbelievable bargain at only five bucks. It's a pretty thick cream but it absorbs really well and at least temporarily takes away the rough spots. A bonus is that if you rub it into your toes, it's extremely soothing to your toe cuticles. (that is what you call them, right?)
Nature's Gift Calendula Repair Cream is awesome! After I discovered the joys of calendula, it quickly became an ingredient that I always look out for. Calendula is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, and it works healing wonders besides. I tend to rub this into my arms and legs at night before bed and I love the calming and soothing scent. Unlike heavily perfumed lotions, this one is a gentle herbal scent that doesn't overwhelm and can be used by my hubby too! (Whenever he wants to use lotion, he tends to look around for a big bottle of Curel that he keeps around 'cause I punkd him a few times by giving him something girly to use, I'm evil, I know...) Check out some of the other ingredients "Subtly scented with the healing essential oils of Rose Otto, (antibacterial and soothing), Palma Rosa (anti-fungal), Neroli (gentle sebum balancer), and Sandalwood (again, skin balancing and anti-bacterial) this rich soothing lotion has a unisex appeal." Another product that I have to thank the All Natural Beauty Mall for introducing me to!
I'm still trying to convince my hubby to use this to see how it works on his dark circles, but in the meantime I can say what it does for me (I don't tend towards dark circles). It is incredibly refreshing and while for the life of me, I don't understand how something I put under my eyes makes them feel less tired, that's exactly what it does. It tightens the skin around your eyes making you look more alert and doe eyed and ohhhhh, how I'm going back to being upset that I didn't use it this morning...... (I use a cream at night and save this for the day since it's effects are more noticeably cosmetic)
HOLY COW is this stuff divine! At $89, it better be! Ohhh mama...... I don't know H2CR from H2O, but I do know it works. I'll leave the science to the scientists, but I can tell you that even at first use, my skin began to glow. It brightened up my face and within a few weeks I'd say my skin looked firmer and more toned, as well as my pores appearing smaller. I'm glad to see products geared towards prevention and not just treatment after the fact. Particularly if you're fair skinned, this is a top notch investment and a little goes a long way. In perspective, the cost isn't too staggering in light of how long one bottle will last you (this stuff is highly concentrated). I also like that it's so light and absorbs really quickly so you don't feel any heaviness before moisturizing.
Laboratoire Remede Alchemy Premium Night Cream is horrifyingly expensive, but boy does it feel gooooood.... it's got something of a cult status (Bliss, one of their main US distributors is backordered on single jars- yes, Virginia, they Do sell them in double jar sets for the OCD types) and for good reason. You wake up with skin that feels ten years younger overnight! It's extremely concentrated, so it will last you a pretty good long time. What I most enjoyed using it for though was my decolletage, which gets lots of sun exposure in my day to day doings (I always seem to forget the sunblock there....) It's highly antioxidant and erases negative sun effects. This is not for those with oily skin, since it is a heavy cream, but it was great on my combination skin. It contains vitamin E capsules that melt into your skin as you massage it in, it feels like you're practically INJECTING youth and moisture into your face!
Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion Body Exfoliating Cream is nothing short of miraculous. It has the tiniest little crystals that are really gentle on even the most sensitive skin. It rinses off cleanly and easily leaving behind the smoothest softest skin this side of a baby's ass. After using this, all I want to do is run my hands all over my body. It's obscene, really! Afterwards it seems like lotions penetrate into my skin better and the effect lasts for days.
Sadly, they can't all be winners. Dr Brandt Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion lost me on this one. I was shocked by how much I disliked this, since I generally adore Dr Brandt products in general and specifically the rest of the Pores No More line. First of all, I should not have to do an hour of research to figure out exactly what the heck it is- is it a treatment? A moisturizer? A primer? Who knows! I can certainly tell you that using it both with and without primer it was a miserable failure. Pores no more? How about pores exactly the same. Mattifying? How about oil slick. If they just called it an anti aging moisturizer, I might not feel so betrayed, but when something has specific qualities as part of it's name you expect at least a little follow through. PPHPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTTTT
So no more vitriol, it's back to drooling time. Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter is gurgle gurgle gurgle....... It smells so fresh and sharp, with a combination of blood orange, strawberry and mandarin. It's so invigorating and clean but with a certain amount of sophistication to it. It's a very classy scent, and can be layered with the other products in the scent line. (I'm a big fan of the solid perfume as well) It's a really thick, rich cream and it banishes any hint of dryness, leaving the skin quenched all day. The husband loves the smell of this stuff!

This advanced hand cream kills 99.9% of germs on contact and keeps killing bacteria for up to four hours, no matter what you touch next! Patented SafetyDerm™ technology harnesses Benzethonium Chloride, suspended in air-light layers of moisturizers, to veil your hands like invisible germ-killing gloves. Clinically proven moisturizers vitamin E, avocado, jojoba, and grape-seed oils help make the skin soft while Cotton Vantage™ technology uses cotton seeds and extracts that help soothe, smoothe and moisturize skin.
Yeah- what they said. Now this is a product that I've gotten pretty OCD about. This is my go to holy grail for working at the library. I am forced to touch some pretty nasty crap day in and day out. I don't like most regular hand sanitizer because of how drying (and usually stinky) they are. I wouldn't say as a lotion that this is most moisturizing out there, not by a long shot, but it's certainly preferable to alcohol and triclosan based alternatives. I compulsively apply this after every hand washing to keep me protected, and I'd have to say it lives up to it's claim. I started using this about a year ago and managed to not get a nasty bug every other week like I had been previously. Hmmmm. Now that I think about it, I should probably re-up my supply soon!
